How do I know if I’m pregnant?

The most common sign that typically indicates you may be pregnant is if you have missed your period by a week or more. However this is not always reliable as many women can have irregular cycles. Here is a list of other symptoms that you may be experience while being pregnant:

  • Tender breasts

  • Nausea (either with or without vomiting)

  • Increased urination

  • Fatigue

  • Moodiness

  • Bloating

  • Cramping

  • Constipation

  • Food Aversion

These are some common signs or symptoms, however, each woman and pregnancy is different. In addition, a lot of these symptoms are not unique to pregnancy and can be experienced in other illnesses. It is recommended to confirm a pregnancy with a pregnancy test and an ultrasound.

When should I take a pregnancy test?

If you want the most accurate results, you should take a pregnancy test once you have missed your period. If you are unsure when your next period will begin, it is recommended that you wait at least 21 days after you have had unprotected sex before taking a pregnancy test.

By this time there should be enough of the hormone human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) to be detected on a test.
