Seeing two lines on a pregnancy test can bring a rush of emotions. You might feel shocked, scared, hopeful, confused, or all of the above. If you’re thinking, “I’m pregnant… where do I go from here?” you are not alone.
At Zoe, A Women’s Center, we aim to empower you with evidence-based information and compassionate support so you can make a choice you can live with. Whether this pregnancy was planned or unexpected, you deserve clarity, respect, and care.
Let’s walk through your next steps.
Step 1: Confirm the Pregnancy
If you took a home pregnancy test, your next step is confirmation.
A medical-grade pregnancy test and a limited-obstetric ultrasound can provide important information, including:
- Whether the pregnancy is located in the uterus
- Whether there is a detectable heartbeat
- How far along you are
An ultrasound is the most accurate way to determine gestational age in early pregnancy (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 2016). Knowing how far along you are can help you understand your options more clearly.
Zoe, A Women’s Center offers no-cost pregnancy testing and limited-obstetric ultrasounds in a confidential setting.
Step 2: Take a Breath Before Making a Decision
When facing an unplanned pregnancy, it can feel like you need to decide immediately. In most cases, you have time to gather information and think through your options carefully.
You may be considering:
- Parenting
- Adoption
- Abortion
Each option carries emotional, physical, and practical considerations. Our role is not to pressure you. We are here to educate and inform you so you can move forward with confidence.
Please note: Zoe, A Women’s Center does not perform or refer for abortion.
Step 3: Learn About Your Options
Parenting
Parenting may feel overwhelming, especially if you’re thinking about finances, school, work, or your relationship. You might be asking:
- How would I afford a baby?
- What if I’m doing this alone?
- Am I ready?
We offer education, parenting support, and material assistance designed to meet practical needs while helping you build confidence for the future.
Adoption
Adoption plans today look very different than they did decades ago. You can choose:
- An open adoption
- A semi-open adoption
- A closed adoption
You can have a voice in choosing the adoptive family and deciding what ongoing contact may look like. We can provide information and referrals so you understand how the process works.
If You Are Considering Abortion
Some people who come to us are considering abortion. If that’s where you are, it’s important to understand:
- The type of abortion procedure available based on gestational age
- Potential physical risks and side effects
- What to expect physically and emotionally
We provide evidence-based information so you can make a fully informed decision. We will treat you with dignity and compassion, no matter what questions you bring.
Step 4: Don’t Walk Through This Alone
You may not feel ready to tell family or friends yet. That’s okay. Having a safe place to process your thoughts can make a meaningful difference.
At Zoe, A Women’s Center, you’ll meet with a trained client advocate who will listen without judgment. Our space is calm, respectful, and confidential. You are more than a situation. You are a whole person with real hopes, fears, and dreams.
Step 5: Make a Plan for What Comes Next
Clarity grows when you have accurate information and supportive people around you. Once you confirm your pregnancy and understand your options, you can begin making a plan that aligns with your values and long-term goals.
No matter what you are feeling right now, this moment does not define your future.
