Pregnant and Considering Parenting? You Don’t Have to Have Everything Figured Out

Finding out you’re pregnant can bring a lot of questions about what comes next.

If you’re considering parenting, you may already be thinking about finances, housing, work, school, childcare, relationships, or whether you feel ready to raise a child. You might feel excited about some parts of the future and uncertain about others.

You don’t have to have every answer today.

Parenting is a journey, and preparing for it can begin one step at a time. Having helpful information, practical resources, and people you can turn to for support can make a difference as you think about your future.

At Zoe, A Women’s Center, we’re here for you today while helping you prepare for tomorrow.

Start With the Questions You Have Right Now

When you’re considering parenting, it can be easy to look far into the future and feel like you need to solve everything at once.

Instead, you can begin with the questions that matter most to you right now.

What concerns are weighing on you? What would help you feel more prepared? Who is part of your support system? Are there areas of pregnancy or parenting you’d like to learn more about?

You don’t need to know exactly what parenting will look like before you begin exploring those questions.

At Zoe, our client advocates offer a respectful place to talk, ask questions, and learn more about the support and resources available to you.

Preparing for Parenting Is About More Than Baby Supplies

Preparing for a baby can include gathering diapers, wipes, clothing, and other essentials. But preparing for parenting is about more than having the right supplies.

It’s also an opportunity to learn.

Zoe offers pregnancy and parenting education through BrightCourse. Clients can explore courses on topics related to pregnancy, parenting, and caring for a growing family.

As you complete courses, you can also earn points that can be used toward practical items such as diapers, wipes, gift cards, and other necessities.

You don’t have to know everything about parenting before your baby arrives. Learning, asking questions, and building new skills can all be part of preparing for the journey ahead.

Practical Help for You and Your Family

Sometimes the questions surrounding parenting are very practical.

How will I afford everything my baby needs? What should I have before the baby arrives? Where can I find clothes and other necessities as my child grows?

Those questions matter, too.

The Zoe Giving Tree offers free items for pregnant moms, babies, and young children.* It’s one of the ways we can come alongside families with practical resources during pregnancy and the early years of parenting.

Whether you could use baby clothing, everyday necessities, or other helpful items, we encourage you to ask about what may be available.

Needing a little extra support along the way doesn’t mean you have to have everything figured out. Building a support system and knowing where to turn for resources are valuable parts of preparing for parenthood.

Dads Are Part of the Journey, Too

Pregnancy may happen in one person’s body, but preparing for parenthood can involve both parents.

Dads and other men involved in a pregnancy may have questions of their own about fatherhood, relationships, responsibilities, and how they can support their growing family.

Zoe has a volunteer fatherhood mentor who works with dads and men, providing an opportunity to talk, ask questions, learn, and prepare for fatherhood.

You don’t have to arrive knowing exactly what kind of dad you want to be. Fatherhood is something you can continue learning and growing into along the way.

A Place to Ask Questions and Find Support

Whether you’re considering parenting, preparing for your baby’s arrival, or adjusting to life with a young child, you don’t have to figure everything out at once.

At Zoe, you’ll find people ready to listen, practical resources that can help, and opportunities to learn at your own pace.

Our free and confidential services, in accordance with Maine state law, provide a respectful and compassionate environment where you can ask questions and find support for your next steps.
